Fueling the Invasion

Recommended Posts

ZB26 (from Zzssss' somethin / Brno in 1926)

Designed for the rimless 7.92mm Continental round.

Bought by the British Army after being converted to fire the rimmed .303 round (hence the ridicously curved signature top mounted magazine)

then the bit I found quite appropriate.

Re-converted back to the rimless 7.62 round to serve NATO for many years in the hands` of the British Army.

I found that very appropriate in some strange way.

the design coming "full circle" so to speak.

Rimless to rimmed and back to rimless.

that if nothing else proved the veracity of the origional Czech design.

As an 8 stone runt I was on the Gun for the Section match in der TA.

Whence we actually won the comp at Bisley.

Happy days.

Not properly sober for 6 or 8 weeks.

My understanding is that it has to be 'proved' to be either;

causing significant damage to crops

having a significant, negative impact on native wildlife

or raising issues affecting public health and safety

I don't think control under a 'general license' would be lawful, the above has to be satisfied and under the restrictions of a 'special license'

Not that I particularly agree with the above.

david they are not native so shoot at will

I knew a 'tree girl' who worked for DEFRA some years ago. She lived and worked in Slough and was passionate about the trees in 'her' patch. Her biggest anxiety were these parakeets and the damage they did to the trees.

She took me on a walk to an abandoned private estate in Wraysbury where these birds had taken over the surrounding trees. All the branches ended in a stub about the thickness of my thumb. Not a pretty sight!

They are now up as far as Marlow.

I like the BREN gun! I knew the two shotguns that were featured in the film well. I may have been the last person to fire one of them at a pheasant.......and miss. :001_tongue:
