Thats just 3 point linkage winches mate, the cable pulls tight on the drum and can be a pain in the arse to pull out.

cover the cable in waste oil, it will slip over itself easier on the drum, its messy to handle but you should be wearing gloves anyway:001_smile:

I had a 3.5 ton winch it wasn't man enough imo, I would have rather had a 5 ton winch, always get bigger than you need , thats my motto

hi lee yeah i was looking at one from riko but found this one locally. i too wanted a 5 ton minimum but getting the 3.5 was pure economics. i had the cash at the time so got it to get me going. i think it should suit what we are doing but can see that there will be a bit of a knack to getting tricky stuff out. but thats probably winching in general

You'll be ok with the size timber your pulling mate, it will pull 12'' whole trees no trouble, just rember to never winch outside the 30 degree zone, or you could pull the the tractor over, but I'm sure you know that, and never use the winch cable up high in a tree, ie as a felling aid........

I have a 601 Farmi, and every once and while have to hook it to a tree and pull the tractor ahead to get a drum bind out.

The larger the cable diameter you use the less binding that normally happens.

Also the shorter the cable length, the better you can keep it tensioned on the drum.
