eBay

Something new I learnt this morning, if you now end an item early, as info a deal out of eBay you still get charged the 10% selling fee at the highest bid, for example, I removed something bid at £310 and got charged £31.

I'm pretty sure it hadn't been like that in the past!

Yes, its always been like that.

I believe the way round it is to cancel all the bids with a suitable reason eg item broken/lost/stolen etc. then dont end your advert, but take all the description down and replace with SOLD SOLD SOLD, and let the advert run its course with no bids on.

Of course you may get some idiots putting in bids anyway, but just remove them asap. This way = no selling fees (just the fees for putting the advert up to pay).

I don't know if anyone else uses this "trick". But I sometimes find that companies selling stuff on ebay charge more than through their own websites. I assume when they sell through their own site they save on ebay fees.

I choose what I want to buy on ebay then check the companies own website :)

We have a a couple of websites selling wreath supplies to the floristry and craft market. The prices on the website are the best we can offer. When we did use Amazon and Ebay the prices were 15% dearer to cover the added costs of using the platform. We still use ebay now and then but just for end of line stuff and odds and sods - lots where someone is potentially getting a real bargain. We don't use Amazon at all.

I think people are much more savvy these days, fully aware that the high cost of selling on these platforms means that it probably is cheaper elsewhere.
