The change from 12"LP record to CD to mp3 to download, has deprived possibly 2 generations now of the sheer pleasure and magic at times, of album artwork, which would be studied all the way home, and was often more of a talking point than the actual music within.

Depends where you look Stubby. I've got a link to a site where you can download all sorts of prog rock in Mp3 at 128mb/sec

How does it sound when you compare it to a CD through a valve amp playing through a pair of Mission 753 speakers .  Or my  Sennheiser IE 80 ear buds ?

Does it matter after you reach 50? I now have trouble hearing skylarks.

Sounds like a great set up Stubby, bet it sounds ace.

I love vintage hifi gear.. there’s something really ‘raw and authentic’ about the sound.

I have a Quad 303/33 pre-amp and power amp (which was the model made after the valve stuff) driving some Acoustic Research AR3a‘ improved’ along with some smaller vintage Sony’s (which were actually made by Bowers & Wilkins) The sources I have are a Meridian 506 CD player and a Technics SL110 deck.

60’s, 70’s, 80’s & 90’s equipment still sounding great.

The Quad is due a factory service to make it really ‘sparkle’ again.

The big AR speakers need the foam surrounds replaced, which are coming from the US.

I have a more modern set up in the living room, but this is in the ‘cave’ where I can push the levels.
