i put 18inch on mine 2 weeks to finish a job. used it a few days this week felling spruce and cross-cutting on storm clear up, pretty rapid! normally 30 or 27inch

Hi JOE SORRY mate I'm told it run up to a 3ft bar but STIHL did bringing a 28 inch bar specially for that saw thanks Jon

Mate runs his with Sugi Light 28" , saw feels just right with this .

I have run one with a 30" bar, quite sure it will pull a 36" comfortably

 

Depends which is more suitable for your workload

I'm running 2 1 with a 30 inch and one with a 36 both seem ok these were replacements for a 661 and a 880 which were stolen at new year.

I like the 661 I also run a 660 with a 25 inch sugihara bar.
