That looks a lot of fun there Tom and that oak is going to look absolutely ruddy cracking. Can't wait to see the slabs roll off

Yeah- great job, and lovely wood. Having milled wood that has been in the sea before, i am a little concerned that it will be a 'cracking' job in more ways than one....Time will tell.:001_smile:

They're called 'Slaters', and are indeed closely related to Woodlice.

Tommer - Told you the wood would be green.:001_tt2:

Haha, yes you did, but actually its not green, its is seasoned. The sap has been driven out of the wood by the sea water, its just very wet!:001_smile: I am told it is not unusual to have done this to timber for the purpose of seasoning. The wood was cracking very quickly after i severed anything. The old guy in the pics has painted stuff over the ends as soon as we got it quayside to try and retain some of tha moisture. As it is seasoned i believe that it will dry in a different manner to the way green wood full of sap dries. i expect to have cracking in all directions to combat, which hopefuly the treatment today will slow a bit. Time will tell. I will dry it as slowly as i can, and probably leave it out of doors, in stick, for a few winter months.:001_cool:
