Was thinking along the same lines but don't fancy emigrating just moving a bit further east. The in laws live down near Bournemouth and climate there is a world away from life on the moors these last few years. They have dry summers even needing to water the lawn My mind boggles at the thought of needing to do that. Never been there for a weekend without seeing the sun whatever time of year. So if it keeps up like this it's Dorset here we come.

 

I think you're right mate. Been to Topsham today and on most of the other occasions I drive east up the a38, the rain drops off dramatically once nearing Newton Abbot. Plymouth and the west side of the moor where thee and me are gets the worst of it. I grew up in Gloucester, nice and dry there as the s/w prevailing comes up the BRS channel and splits off, mostly into Wales. Fond memories of crisp cold winters, baking hot long summer days, lots of light, April showers and autumn twilight...

Agreed with everything thats said, the constant rain gets me down too, .. but just fast forward to heat of July, flies, dust, thirst, loss of weight, engines over heating, sleep loss due to heat, and the worst of all that shimmer of heat just about off the ground in front of you as you fill up the saw for its 10th filling of the day at 3.45 on a thursday afternoon feeling scorched, knackered and very iritable on a steep south facing hillside just wishing i could take these heavy chainsaw trousers off and replacing with jeans.

I'm still amazed people climb tree's in the rain, never would of thought till I joined this forum..

 

 

 

I mean, I do the occasional tree myself, nothin fancy or owt just medium size stuff.

 

An I can tell you, any sign of rain an I'm off home..

 

I ain't slippin an breakin my neck for a days wage for no one....

 

 

If I didn't work in the rain I wouldn't be able to put food on the table for my wife and kids. Doesn't bother me even when it's slippery as long your careful it's fine.

Praying for dry weather next couple of weeks. 2 acres of trees to plant on flood plain land. My machine for towing my wheelchair is being put to its most extreme testing so far. I needed lots of help to get around today finishing the parkland guards! Water table about 1" below surface level
