Poor tree work in conservation area

But is it ok for me to care and want to do something about it? I suppose I was hoping for a unanimous decision but it seems a mixed camp, of which I don't quite understand.

Yeah I know, you were hoping for everyone to tell you what a conscientious pro you were, and for a general head-shaking about or standards of tree trimming.

Life's difficult to understand isn't it?

He was 20ft in the sky wielding a polesaw. Everyone needed a helmet

But he would be the envy of all other gardeners in the county. If they were to see him, they'd be thinking, he's got balls of steel, looks like he's bought one of them fancy harnesses, nice pole saw, we ought to get one of them, we should get some of this kit and do tree work too. They wouldn't be thinking he should be wearing a helmet as they probably know it's not a legal requirement.

I doubt he's gonna go to jail.

No body said it was acceptable, we're just not ranting on about it like it's the worst think ever to happen!

It's sh it work end of, neither me or my 2 guys will work like that but it happens and getting wound up about it won't do any good.

I'm not getting wound. Feeling pretty chilled actually. Just debating it. I've seen enoug of your posts to know you operate a professional outfit. As I said earlier though our industry has a bad enough name at times as it is. Surely it is in our interests to get rid of those who do not give a monkeys and give e industry a bad name. Plus somebody is paying to have a job done, properly. I don't care what industry it is I hate to see people paying for a job that is done shoddily on purpose.

On the flip side, Sean, the client ought to have gone for a reputable company. Crap workers like that make the decent ones look better :)

Thank you, and yes I totally agree with you, this industry does seem to have more cowboys than many others but it won't change until people like the councils change the way they operate as even some of there work is crap. Good standards always stand out so just do the v best you can.

Come on, we know it will not kill it but it's not going to do it any good either. I'm gobsmacked that so many people find this to be acceptable.

Spiking a tree to do a reduction is not on.

But it's a commercial world we live in. Spiking makes it easier therefore quicker, more money, less fatigue etc, etc.

99% of door knocking birch toppers don't care about the health of a common betula so why should "we" bother?

Isn't it just? I was hoping for pats on the back all round and maybe even a few cheers! 'Twas not to be mick, Twas not to be. Nope, just wanted to see what the general consensus was and whether it was worth a phone call. Why not? It's not a bad request. Maybe I should just leave it, but then again, screw em.

Yet you're wearing one in your avatar. Chopping a log. It's not a legal requirement you know, safety goggles would suffice.

Mate, I've antagonised you and Sean. Very tongue in cheek if you couldn't tell.

It's the way I see it these days, as you say it goes on every day and we see lots of it. Regardless of your professional attitude it will still go on, so as a result although it possibly defeatist I don't let it get under my skin anymore.

I do realise it's possibly not the "correct" thing to do turning a blind eye, but if there's no official action being taken with these wannabes what can we do?
