Ouch, they're big nails. Was the wood left over from hedging or just unlucky?

Been VERY unlucky we're guessing. Don't think they've came from anywhere there's been hedging / fencing...

 

And I don't know if you can see properly, but in one of the photos, the nails are the really old square type.

 

Asked about them, and people have said they're from a long, LONG time ago, they were in the centres of the rings, which were easily 18/20 inches across - so what's the estimate of their ages???

As for nails doing a lot of arbwaste we find all sorts, found a cricket ball in a middle of a log one where the tree grew around it!

There was a story round here of a WHOLE bike and securing chain been found in a tree....

 

Yes, as in the tree was then left long enough for it to grow over / around it!

I know where there is a rotavator in a tree. Watched it get engulfed over 30 years.

Made a start today on these big lumps , the Beech I am going to have a go at Milling them and the rest for logs .

Bloody hell makes my cricket ball story seem stupid don't it!!!! And letting a tree grow around your bike is one way of stopping people nick it!
