As Mr Ed said, Landmarc support services look after the defence training estate. Carillion - who then use Sodexo to look after barrack grounds and camps. A while back, ISS waterers won a contract to maintain married quarters, gardens etc. Also if a regiment wants anything doing above and beyond the standard contract they can pay anyone themselves. I'm not sure about TA sites and this may vary a bit nationally. Hope this helps you out.

As far as I'm aware, Sodexo have an exclusive contract for all facilities management of bases for the MOD.

Sodexo are part of Forte, the biggest facilities management company in the world.

ALL MOD Land is run by Sodexho and LANDMARC Andy, some sub-contract certain aspects.

I'm talking about Landscaping and Tree works before my 'knowledge' gets thundered into the ground as per usual.

We are all talking about the same thing, I can only speak from my experience (not as wide as yours in this matter) All the tree contract work I carried out was answerable to the main contractor, Sir Alfred mcAlpine, they ran the show, they ran the courses in UXB ident, they ran all the site as far as we were concerned. This may, or may not, have been passed to them from the companies you mention, but I had no paperwork to this effect. No one is saying you are wrong, and I certainly have no ambition to thunder your 'knowledge' into the ground "as per usual" as this would serve absolutely no purpose, so chill out a little, and have a beer:001_rolleyes:

Sodexho and Enterprise (I beleive) are the main ones although Landmarc do look after the training establishments but they are government funded as part of the MOD. (so they told me when I delivered their last GreenMech woodchipper to Aldershot). I have also seen Nature First of Gloucester on an airbase in the Cotswolds. No doubt in some cases other firms will be authorised to do "local" works because of their skill base, qualifications and equipement. ISS Waterers still run some GM contracts as do Glendales.

Would the REME or Sappers run chainsaw training as part of their remit? I know that some Bomb Disposal have certified chainsaw people for site clearance as well as some GreenMech woodchippers.

Oh, why join the forces if you are not prepared to put yourself in harms way for your country in times of need.

That, I believe, is why you will be asked to swear an oath of allegance to your employer, The Queen, and sign the Official Secrets Act.

Defence of the realm is not game or a soft option before a pension.

Best wishes with your choice.

Up here Carillion run the show,Sodexo are just contracted to them, be it ground care, or catering.

There are talks within DE, to try and get all the contracts under one big umbrella, and just have one huge firm looking after the whole lot, this will probably never happen because the 3 main players all have different years left on there contracts, Landmarc alone got a 10 year contract with a possible 5 year extension, and still have 4 years left on it.

I'm afraid the MOD contracts are very difficult to get into, mainly because of the capacity thats required by the MOD eg, JV Strong have the contract in the Salisbury Plain area. And once they have the contract, it will be nightmare to get it off them, for the obvious reasons. LANDMAR et al do have large facilities management contracts with MOD establishment, but they contract out for specialised skills such as arb.

My view, many peopl on here would have done well in the Army. So if you want to join, it's your choice, not your parents. Granted they have to wait at home. From my experienc on recent ops it is very exicting, frightening and it gets harder the longer you do it. But the down side... well i assume you have seen Black Hawk Down, Full Metal Jacket etc, they don't let you know what feels like putting your mate in a bag. That dosen't mean don't do it - if you do it will give you best times of your life!

As far as I know its all contracted out to tree companies, nothing is done "in house" by mod employed personell. Occasionaly they carry out some dimsantling work on salisbury plane using tanks and therefore combining tree work and target practice at the same time!!

We did some work for them on Sailsbury Plain widening a tank crossing and clearing some hawthorn. My boss had a hard time negotiating stuff and working with them, they were just a pain. On Monday, one squaddie rolled a Jeep by hitting a pothole on the tank track right where we were working, the same tank track I drove over 2 hours earlier in a Pug 306. Here he his looking proud of himself.

The funniest/most concerning thing was the resulting rescue operation, and the sheer length it took. The day after the Jeep rolled, some huge 6-wheeled vehicle used to carry folding bridges came along to tow the jeep away, but that broke down...They couldn't fix it, so 2 days after that, another 6-wheeler came along to tow both vehicles away. By then it was thursday.

Personally, I hate working for kids playing soldiers.

I think you'll find that's a WOLF Land Rover and not a Jeep mate :001_tongue:

The apparent 'messing' about while recovering the vehicle is because situations like that are used for trainning.

We'd probably all just much in and roll it back on it's feet lol.

I worked for Defense Estates direct and LANDMARC Support Services. It's not hard to get into but you need to know the right people and get on their tender lists.

Loads of small to large tree surgery companies do Arb work on MOD property but will be working either direct for Defense Estates or through one of the companies allready mentioned as sub-contractors.

Landmarc look after the trainning areas which is where the real money is, they have a budget from the MOD for works that Landmarc suggest need carrying out. They facility manage the trainning estate for a set annual fee to the MOD the MOD then pay for all the work through Landmarc.

Landmarc are part of a joint venture with interserve who are a global facilities mangement concern.
