Ian's Unimog build thread.

Hey everyone,

As a few know I bought a Unimog that requires some work. I've decided to stick a thread up documenting my journey. An expensive journey I'm sure, but it's an investment for my businesses growth. ImageUploadedByArbtalk1452283897.242559.jpg.d962f444254d340b53911b8e637d28af.jpg

So the story so far.

The Unimog requires some work, bigger fuel tank, major service, leaks and today we found one of the rear springs has broken.

We removed the aluminium back it had on because it wasn't up to scratch, welding and structurally.

Today we cut the steel down for the chip box and have tacked it together, squared up the frame ready for welding tomorrow.

We've still got the steel floor and 2ft sides to add in. The piece above this I've decided to add marine ply as it will have chip up there. Once the backs fitted out we can take the measurements and create the barn doors for the rear.

Nice thread, I'm going through the same thing with mine just now. Same hiab setup.

Both our springs are gone too, are you putting On the heavy duty ones ?

What's the plan with loading timber when you have a chip box on ? Trailer ?

Yeah I will as it makes sense in the long run. I'll pull a 16t grain trailer behind it eventually is the goal. Load timber into that trailer or the chip box depending on the amount of chip etc.
