Husqvarna oil?

As already mentioned you don't have to use husky oil for warranty purposes but you should use a decent quality oil and stihl hp red isn't one of them.

I don't thing there's anything wrong with it chap, it's just the green stuff is cleaner.

We only use husky oil in the m but it states in the manual to use a richer mix if using cheaper brand

I know plenty of people who do use it and have no problems but they have been on the older generation of machines.

 

Quite a few customers have told me their machines(mtronic and autotune) run far better on the hp super/ultra or husky low smoke/xp.

 

The hp red is a basic mineral oil, the newer generation of saws do prefer a semi synthetic at the very least, this is not only my limited experience but what I have also been told by quite a few people who have far better tech skills/info than me.

I run mine in whatever the local garage has when I need some!!

 

I run mine on 35:1 though not 50:1

There is actually an EU law ( one of the good things they have achieved), that states a manufacturer cannot force a customer to use a particular brand of oil. They can recommend one. But as long as the oil you are using is the same grade as the oil they recommend then you are covered.

This is the same across all types of machinery. We get it a lot with Tractors in particular.

A lot of chainsaw manufacturers recommend an oil at 50 : 1 and say if you use someone else's oil you have to run at 25 : 1. This is the bit I am not totally sure about where they stand legally.

Is the stihl green the same quality as the husqvarna xp oil?

As I understand it:

 

Stihl HP = mineral based - red

Stihl HP Super = semi synthetic

Stihl HP Ultra = synthetic

 

The super & ultra are green

 

The Husqvarna XP is also synthetic

The LS is semi synthetic
