Buy a used chainsaw with no name plate??

See so many Husqvarna chainsaws on e-bay missing the metal serial number plate on the oil resevoir. 266,272 ,281's etc. Some of them have such tidy paintwork/condition that I doubt very much that they've gone missing through work. So my question is why? have thesev saws been stolen at some time? would you buy one? or is it a case of rewarding thieves!

Never noticed the plates missing on eBay saws, do you have any links to them ? The thread is a bit pointless without. A lot of the saws may be Chinese copies.

can tell a chinese copy quite easy, if it had been rebuilt using a copy crank case then it wouldn't have the rivets attatched, and the paint would be 100% perfect

Husqvarna 281XP Chainsaw | eBay

seller got stropy with me when I asked if it was stolen!

Where do stolen saws end up? E-bay or car boot sales! no thief is going to loose sweat using a chainsaw!

It looks more likely that he found it in a skip than stole it  I think a serious user would have been glad to see the back of it. If that was stolen I'm sure the original owner would recognise it easily enough, has the seller blocked you yet ?
