Knot less rigging on a budget.

Seems like an over complication to me. Clipping onto the rope is a time saver in itself, that purists condone as bad practice. In reality most of us do it to save time. I've never found I clipping it to be a problem.

 

It might be that the rope is too thick to easily get through the gate. But a bigger steel crab with a wider opening.

Mebees, I against overcomplicating stuff but we used it today and it worked nicely.

I asked the lads what they thought, they were happy not to receive any abuse from on high.

As has been said, a spliced ring to replace the end Krab or a figure of eight descender to replace the free running one would work better.

I'm not reinventing the wheel obviously, but I liked it!

If I get a chance tomorrow I'm gonna knock one up out of an off cut of rigging rope I've got. I like the idea of a rigging prussik, you can cinch it nice and tight to the piece being lowered and even when negative rigging, you can pass the carabiner through the prussik loop instead of a half hitch, the system can then be made nice and tight by just pushing the prussik knot. This is all theoretical of course! I'll upload some pics tomorrow

If you look about online you can find the parts used to make the no knot rigging system on tree stuff. Not as expensive as you might think either, both the hook and omega link come in at less than £20

cant really see how thats any better or quicker than clipping it back onto the rope? maybe iam missing somthing!??

i think for all round strength and ease slings are hard to beat.

I find clipping (and un clipping) from a rope can be a pita (as previously outlined problems getting it in and out of gate) compared to the relatively simple process of unclipping from another krab.

Slings are fine, but in close quarters rigging i.e. The branch is very close to the rigging point it increases drop/shock load before the weight is taken.

Slings are overcomplicating IMO.
