I have found that for dragging dead weight like timber electric winches are not really up to it, I burnt out loads of solenoids and ten te motor on an x9 superwinch. Hydraulic would be the preferred option for me, with mounting brackets at each end and hydraulic services available at each end for it.

i am feeling pretty goosed today, my back has just siezed up, i have been non stop for over a week and thought i would do nothing this weekend, well sitting in the van for most of the day hasnt helped, it has just tightened up, so warm bath me thinks. but yes frank, i aim to get myself nice and strong. i even find shoving my little chopper into those tight places all week easier now

How about a capstan winch run from the hydraulics?- it could be as simple as a hydraulic motor with a small bollard attached. You can pull in any distance of rope and from any angle and not mess about spooling cables in and out... :001_smile:

Not so good for recovering the chipper I suppose :(

regarding twin batteries mike i wouldnt bother, just have a good condition standard one.

few years ago i drowned one of our quad bikes in a ditch (flooded field, couldnt see ditch) took around 45 min to recover the bike, almost constant hard winching to get it to dryish land, with the engine off, so not charging. after draining the airbox ect and half a dozen spins the bike still started
