which double cab pickup

Hi All as the above title suggests I am looking at a double cab (cheap end off market around £3500 max ) as you all drive different makes /models just wondering what you think would be best for that money , considering spares prices ,mpg, down time for repairs, off road ability, weight carrying capacity, towing weight. All suggestions will be greatfully received.

Well, for that money the hilux option will be an older one, but that won't matter,

Personally just changed my 05 l200, have to say was good off road, fuel consumption no too bad, was a for work model, quite basic , but I can't complain really hardy vehicle, cylinder head gasket went common at 120-130k,

 

Currently have a isuzu rodeos good reviews on them and happy with mine the chances are you will get an 03-04 for that money, worth remembering those age news were timing belts, I think.

What are you going to be carrying, and what realistically are you going to be towing?

 

my first thought would be a mint condition mk3 hilux (if you live somewhere flat) or mk4 with turbo if not. Genuine parts are expensive, but rarely needed.

My old mk3 would run out of puff on slight hills when towing a GBM Chipper, weighting 1.4t i think, otherwise it was a great truck.

 

3.5k might get you a d40 navara, but at that price id be waiting for it to break.

Out of interest, what exactly is the difference between ford ranger and a mazda b2500, apart from name and decals. I have always thought of the ford as being the most agricultural of pick ups with less electronics to go wrong. ( not inc landy)

Almost nothing. The Ford is a Mazda just rebadged with minor cosmetic changes. They are good work horses and can tow lots due to a fairly low gear motor but aren't great on fuel. You'd be lucky to get 30 mpg unladen sub 25mpg towing. They can pull lots ( hence the ethnic traveller types liking them) and have good ground clearance, parts are reasonable.
