Can you post a picture of the chain? Depth gauges don't need dropping do they?

 

Don't get disheartened, loads of professionals can't sharpen a chain to save their life.

 

Yep, yesterday I blunted a half used chain on 372 hitting a hidden piece of metal, I put it on the back of the pick up, had a go (put my glasses on and everything) tried again, still crap. Thought "stuff it" put a new one on and chucked the other one away.

I'm into the habit of doing that.

I was gonna say depth gauges as well. Try a bigger file, then go back to the correct size. If it's taking up this much time and energy just sack it off and get a new one:001_smile:

i had a chain that a file just wouldnt touch just kept skidding about, ended up taking to the shop where they took it down on a grinder and then was fine after that...odd

not sure if thats whats happening to you?
