I used to have a fan heater in the engine compartment & interior of my camper. It was on a timer & would come on every couple of hours through the night or I could switch it to manual an hour before I needed to use it.

A new slant on an old idea!

My 1953 Land-Rover has an electric immersion heater in the block (fitted in place of a core plug) that does this. Flick it on 1/2 hour before use and the engine is fully warm on start up.

Also the heat generated by the electricity meter whizzing round warms up the house! (I always try to plug it in next door's supply for this reason).

Seen it all now, what next, taking the car for a walk, tucking it in before bed?...

My journey times are usually no more than ten minutes. And here in Berlin it's quite often 10 Celsius below. So for me it makes sense.
