Seem to be worth it for sites with narrow access/chip stays on site type jobs.

Not sure how much work your doing, but if I have to drag back to truck anyways, I would sooner just break down with chainsaw in trailer, and dump/burn later.

 

Thing about these small chippers is the amount of prep required pre-chipping. My 4'' pto yoke did , not like bendy hedge crap, and could not deal with even small branch unions. Bearing in mind this was also a hydraulic feed roller model, which I believe the cs100 is not.

Whats does a new CS100 set you back these days? is the trailer worth the expense?

 

 

I was quoted 4K + vat a couple of years back when I considered one. Think the trailer rocks in at around 1k as well

Sounds about perfect for your needs. Re the trailer...I thought it too exy so used an adapted motorcycle trailer which worked well until we moved up.

the problem with cuttting the waste up small is it still has to be dealt with. that and the recycling yards closing earlier than I finish so waste managment really becomes an issue. Chip is a lot easier to get rid of, I know a few people that I could drop it off to.

The trailer is very well built but for the money Id buy a small light trailer fit to hold logs, a stump grinder, ride on mower etc if required. I could probably use my ramps and a hand winch to load the chipper into the hilux or ifor for the moment.

I think they are around 4300-4500+VAT new but prices go up and down so dont quote me on that.

 

The trailer is very good but i went for a standard trailer as i can also use that for logs and stump grinder etc.

Not quite as easy to use but a simple trailer winch etc have been used in the past ( by other users ) which does the job.

I may reluctantly have my cs100 up for sale in the near future. Great machine!

They're great machines, especially if like me you're on a budget and can't stretch to one of the bigger chippers. Mine's been on the go all day, doing a leilandi hedge reduction. Takes branches up to 4 inches very well, as long as you're good as a manual stress control. Maintenance is straightforward. Keep the blades sharp, and use a good helping of copper grease on the torx bolts when changing the blades. Anything bigger than 4 inches goes for firewood, so it ticks all of my boxes.

My ideal setup for this sized work would be something like a Jo Beau mounted on the drawbar of an ifor tipper. blow chip into the trailer or swing the spout into the pickup. Someday Ill get it the way I want it

I liked the idea of chipping too, when I first got my machine, but it can be very fiddly and time consuming on the wrong material. I ditched the idea and sold the machine on.

 

Depends on your own situation. I'm way over west, with a bit of land to have burn ups on.

If I get a bigger then usual job I hire in a proper chipper for the day and blitz it.

Otherwise its gets thrown on the trailer, no delays, no messing about untangling chaotic hedge material, just home and burn.

now think in a middling estate in Mullingar, Athlone, Navan etc the pickup fills in no time, trailer not as bad but bad. when the whole lot can go into the hilux chipped... Ive used a pto chipper before on work and its great but mrs miggins hates the place blocked up with the deere. and ive to bring pickup and tractor. ive been wasting time and money by not chipping so I think its the answer!
