Dmax issues where do I stand?

Woodworker,

We are in the same boat with ort 63 plate dmax.

Fobbed of by a dealer who must be getting sore from sitting on the fence and wanting £160 odd +VAT for an oil and filter change. This on a vehicle which has only covered 13,500 miles and on its third oil change!

Isuzu were equally un interested and wrote back to us with a very similar sounding email to what you got blaming driving style despite me pointing out lack of information on this in the handbook.

It makes me sick that dealers are punting out vehicles not fit for purpose and manufacturers not standing by their warranty or their product. I like the idea of sitting outside the forecourt with the truck sign written with the problems...I bet that would get a result!

Sorry to hear that Andy

Most of the staff at the local dealers are well briefed and do a good impression of being surprised by diesel getting in the oil and that they have never heard of it before

Thinking of setting up a Facebook page so all those with affected models can at least share their woes and compare notes like the Navara snapped chassis group. Weird thing is some seem to behave perfectly while others dump fuel in the oil like it's going out of fashion. What sort of MPG are you getting? Again some claim fantastic economy but from the computer readout from last checkup said it's managed 27 MPG from new but guess that does not allow for the fact the milo over reads by around 10% so probably nearer 24 mpg.

Manual. Doesn't drop much lower when towing but on the other hand a long drive the motorway with no load it still does not get over 30 MPG. Not too hung up on this as I know others with pickups and most do similar economy just the manufacturers that pluck fictional numbers from the sky.

If you set up a FB group I'd definitely sign up, it would help when confronting dealers that it is an issue and fairly widespread I would think.

We don't do a huge amount of miles off the estate we are based on so I don't tend to calculate mpg as we have lots of gates etc to go through and slow forest roads to travel on...which is why it would seem we have issues. I can probably dig out a print off with our mpg from its last diagnostic check.

What we do though is a weekly vehicle inspection and I can prove mileage (lack of) vs oil creeping up the dipstick to some degree. We also seem to get some oil in the tray next to the oil filter despite making sure the filter is torqued up and tray was recently emptied...?

I dread to think how diluted our oil is and despite our dealer stating categorically when asked that we would be covered in the event of a failure due to oil dilution, one of the emails I received back from Isuzu seemed to suggest differently :(

IMO; that motor is a scrapper. The fuel dilution will have taken the lifespan down 100,000 miles.

Nightmare.

I agree :thumbup1:

Intend to park it up at ..... ..... and and demand money back or new engine. Cant see they would do the later so will see how it goes. Snag is they will just clean it up and sell on to some other poor sucker then fob them off until out of warranty.

If they don't take it back looks like it will have to be the legal rout which sounds like an expensive ball ache.

TCD as oil is your thing do you know of any professional bodies or experts who would state how damaging 20% diesel to 80% oil mix is to an engine? Also if anyone knows of a legal person who is experienced in goods not fit for purpose some numbers could prove useful. Thanks :001_smile:
