Usual chainsaw question.

Hey guys and girls, I'm sure you get fed up of these type of questions but as a newbie I need some advice!

 

I'm looking at getting my own saw and got a choice of 3 within my budget.

 

1) A second hand ECHO cs 420-es

2) A brand new husqvarna 236 (with free starter kit )

3) A stihl. Unfortunately won't know what model etc. until Tuesday.

 

Obviously a brand new saw is better then a second hand one but the husky is only a 14" bar where as the ECHO is an 18". From a quick Google search there doesn't seem to be much difference stats wise between the ECHO and Husky and also seems to be mixed reviews for the 236 where as ECHO have more good then bad reviews.

 

I would be using the saw for private jobs so would prefer the bigger bar and chain so I'm covered for all types of jobs I may get.

 

Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated and when I find more info out about the stihl I shall let you know.

I am a Husky man BUT . From all accounts on here the Echo saw dont seem to ever go wrong !

You've kind of answered your own question really,the echo suits your needs most so go for that one.

Any of them will suit,down to your preference really, but as long as the echo,or any second hand saw,is good it will be a nice thing.

One thing i ll add is you dont need a big guide bar for larger trees,the echo may struggle to pull on a 18 inch bar.

Thanks for all the prompt replies, really appreciated.

Suppose the ECHO would be best but was a bit apprehensive of buying a second hand saw as ive seen a lot of people on varies forums saying they would never buy second hand equipment. I can understand why, but as long as everything is in good order and the saw has been used and maintained correctly I don't see a problem.

 

Sthilmadasever would that be because the engine is not powerful enough for that size bar?

I'm not totally clueless as I use chainsaws at work, as ive said in a separate thread in The Lounge, I just don't have years of experience and don't know much mechanical wise. I do know about maintenance though!

The Echo would be my pick from your list, the Husky 236 seems problematic

 

However, the Echo is 40cc maybe too small for an 18" bar, it will cut better on a shorter bar say 14"

 

Perhaps the Dolmar 420 maybe worth a look which pulls a 16" bar well
