Hi I've been logging up some small trees/ branches for someone with my 170 it's inly a 12 inch bar. I'm wondering if it would run a bigger bar say 16 inch to make it reach into the saw horse better? I would not be trying to take big trees down its just awkward to fit into my saw horse for the small logs?

Save time and cut them all in a pile on the ground, saves lifting them up into the holder. Just don't hit the ground.

That's what I'm frightened of! Don't like doing it on the ground as I feel unsafe if the saw decided to do anything silly hence the saw horse!

16" would be too much for a 170.

Change your saw horse to this type instead.

Not seen one of those before that will do the job! I just feel safer with the saw away from the ground. Thanks

i agree 16 inch is to big for that saw

Stihl say 30, 35, 40, or in imperial 12 ,14 or 16

If you are not cutting full bar length, if it suits your setup and youre not in hurry then personally I would give it a go.

Even if you cut one at a time on the ground, kneel down and cut with the bar level until the saw body touches the floor, then remove the saw, rotate the log and finish the cut.
