Yes when I use the comp to blow it out it's amazing who much dust settles everywhere! I'll give the washing a go when I can. Would the thermostat have anything to do with it? It does only happen under real hard load it seems, when chipping max size long cord?

Iirc, mine overheated sporadically, I took a hose pipe (with a spray nozzle you know the sort of thing) to it at a clients. The gunk just kept coming out.

There is, (according to TW) a overheating jobby on it that will shut it down when it overheats, this has happened to me.

Honestly, first thing I would do if I were you is clean the rad with a hose THEN use an airline on it to ensure its dry otherwise the new dust/crud will form a new "cake" on the fins.

Sometimes things really are that simple.

Good luck with it anyway.

I am surprised the chipper manufacturers have not changed the direction of the fan on chippers, its never made sense to me for them to suck from the direction that the chute is pointing. It would also keep the engine bay alot cleaner. It also does not make sense to try and cool an engine by pulling the hot air from the radiator over it:confused1:

Hello Gerbutt

The filler cap has a spring loaded seal within designed to open when the cooling system is over pressure, usually if an overheating event occurs and allow water to discharge until the pressure is stabilised. Best route would be to take your machine to an authorised Timberwolf or Kubota agent for checking if this is causing concern

Hope this helps

The cool fresh air is pull into the radiator to cool the water (and oil in some cases) which then maintains the the engine coolant at the most fuel efficient to power output temperature around 128C then the air passes the engine removing radiating heat.

If it pulled the air past the engine first then the now warm air would have a reduced effect at cooling the coolant inside the radiator, this is what is removing the excess heat from the centre of the engine!

Anti-freeze: important element ok we all know it stops the water freezing! And stops internal corrosion but it also increases the boiling temp of the water by about 8 degs C at 50%

To much antifreeze and at the hottest point (internal part of the engine/cyl liners) it will turn to gel stick to the hot spot which stops coolant from removing the heat! End result engine seizure!!

Water level dropping: I have had a few customers who said, I top it up every morning and it lost some water/the level has dropped by the end of the day!

Water expands when hot - pushes the excess out shrinks when cold - leave drops

If there is no expansion bottle fitted after this has happened and when cold if the coolant level is still above the radiator core when looking in at the top you have found the working level no need to top up!*

If the expansion bottle is full or over flowing you may have a failed radiator cap! *

*Or the engine is simply overheating

Due to - radiator core blocked

Fan belt adjustment (too loose)

Thermostat failed/stuck

Head gasket failed

Blockage in the coolant system restricting coolant flow
