Heard from someone who works railside in Kent. He says they (gang of four inc safety man) spend most days felling on average, 3 small trees between them during a full shift. No chipping just smash them down & make safe. Money is reasonable but he's having trouble sleeping during the 90 minute lunch stop:blushing:....boring or what? Is this normal, anyone else done it?

Not far from the truth. I did almost a year on the railway before I couldn't take it anymore, its hard work trying not to work and didn't suit me. Being keen to get on makes everyone else look bad, so then you're made out to be the bad guy. Night shut downs were better, limited time to do the job so all hands on deck, and double time pay too.

Never again though!

I did one Sunday on the railway. Terrible work, up and down bramble covered banks, sweltering heat, pushing to get the job done before the end of the shutdown. And at the end having to handball loads of cord up into a unimog. Very hard work indeed, not for the faint hearted.

Iv been working on the railway for 16 years now & wouldn't have it any other way, but I work on LUL where you can only work from 01:00 - 04:00 & work in a safety critical roll so don't even work, oh and the money ant bad eather

Your best bet is to join an angencey as there alway desperate for people with chainsaw certs & thay would be keen to book you on your PTS etc then once you get a start you'll meet people make contacts and go from there

Best of luck bud
