I would suggest:

1) Ask the client for their preferences / dislikes - no point having an arboretum of trees the client detests!

2) See what would thrive on the land (including protecting from Deer, rabbits, etc).

3) Check the client has the resources over the next five years to care for the trees to assist their establishment.

4) Ensure the trees have the space to mature (including layout /avenues/ vistas....) Right tree, right place.

5) Could be themed, geographical (native/american/chinese.. trees), leaf type, species, bark, autumn colours, age (trees from the age of dinosaurs / by age of introduction to Europe) or just a "riot" of different trees.

6) I like the idea of planting very long lived trees as opposed to those of short lived trees. Leaving a very long legacy!

If you would like to contribute to making this industry more effective and safe then welcome.
Just like a living tree, it'll always be a work in progress.
Please have a look around, sign up, share and contribute the best you have.
