Thanks Beau.

On the bright side, the Policeman collating information on this guy's activities is called Officer Dibble!

Put a smile on my face last night:001_smile:

Are you 100% sure officer Dibble isn't in on it as well?

Seriously though, well done for being a Good Samaritan. There is a shortage of them. :)

next time you spot him walking down the, road run him over :D

Top man for helping out, kindness like that is in short in today's world... to be repaid like that just isn't fair!

Thanks Ian,

Fortunately this bloke and those like him represent an almost insignificant percentage of the general population. Most people are thoroughly decent when it comes down to it.

Ironically, the fact that he has been so successful in his shenanigans is good evidence of this.

Unfortunately my brain wasn't engaged enough to think of a way for him to prove conclusively that his story was genuine. It never occurred to me at the time that he might be trying it on so I was not really looking for evidence.

His ruse is very sophisticated, he doesn't directly ask for money (which would ring alarm bells), he waits for it to be offered. Once that occurs he knows he's got you and it's just a case of how much he can coax out of you.

For those who didn't see the link, here is his picture. His hair is a little shorter now.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just spoke to Wiltshire police. Mr James is now back in prison. He is likely to get another 3 years inside for his latest string of offences.

Prison doesn't seem to phase him much, but at least it is 3 years where he is unable to perform his wicked deeds.

Big thumbs up to Melksham police for snaring him so quickly:thumbup:

Sadly the actual time served with good behavior will likely be a quarter or a fifth of the actual sentence :(
