Cheap stove fans - false economy?

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has used the cheapy eco fan equivalents, e.g.Heat Powered Wood Burning Gas Stove Top Silent Eco Friendly Warm Air Fan Black | eBay

If so, are they any good? I know you get what you pay for and everything, but at less than half the price of a genuine Caframo eco fan, possibly worth a try? Doesn't say how much air it moves, but those figures tend to be inflated anyway. Ecofan say that their fans move most air (Ecofan - Compare Stove Fans), but they would, wouldn't they! Anyone got real world experience of other options?

Cheers.

Giles

Hi Giles there was a thread about this a while ago with varying responses, I have a Vulcan 'Stirling' from gyroscope.com (more expensive end of the market) but it does exactly what I wanted it to which is push the heat up the stairs of my cottage as that was the cold spot stopping the heat getting upstairs. I liked the design of it as it works on air expansion pushing a piston so very little to go wrong and never stops working because its got too hot, very quiet...........AND its British

I have sold Ecofans for 6 years, only ever replaced one motor and that was after 5 years in service. No other problems at all. The ecofans are the original Canadian design and are expensive but they hang together far better than the Chinese stuff.

You pays your money and takes your choice but as a retailer I dont want the ones that give me warranty issues as this takes time and money to resolve.

Well, I've just ordered a valiant stove top fan. Was thinking about a heat transfer system to run the heat at the ceiling through to the bedrooms. I still might but for short term, getting a fan to see if I can push the heat around the room rather than having it hang around above my head seems like a good option. Will let you know how it goes.
