Not quite as simple as that, the gas strut has to be pushed back into place which is awkward but yes, it's doable.

Its easier than you might think

 

Use a drift or a bolt to keep the damper in place while you swap them over:thumbup:

We have done it (the gas strut broke and had to be welded up) we used the blade of the chipper to push a socket on the end of a bar down the tube to compress the strut, when in position slip the bolt through.

Your way does sound easier!

A nato hitch is a hook ( sometimes a ball ) with a top clamp .

Ring hitches clank more when the trailer is a little tail end heavy. If the fuel tank is near the hitch keeping that full can sometimes improve things. I prefer ring hitch at least you know it's not. going to fall off if you collect a customers machine and they have worn out the coupling.
