I started mine exactly as suggested in the manual yet had starting issues.

I found the saw started much better after sinking it on continual full throttle into a big lump of hornbeam.

Cold or hot start, I never use the decompression valve.

Now running on Aspen.

cheers, steve

The sinking it into a lump of hornbeam is what you should have one first . That is doing the initial A/T set . :001_smile:

The two top tips for starting a 550, especially in this weather. I ran out of Aspen and had to revert to pump fuel for a bit - God it was the pits for hot starts in the hot spell! Stank, too.

I wish i could afford to run on aspen! Petrol and husky xp 2 stroke are about my limit haha

They should not be telling you to start the saw with the brake off, especially if the saw is on oart throttle, you may chose to do this, but a dealer should never suggest it.

The dealership didnt tell me this. Friend of a friend told me thats what he had done with his.

Vapor lock in the carburetor, wet spark plug, ... will cause starting problems. Using the choke on a warm engine, missing the first ignite, should be observed. Avoid using the decompression valve if possible.

I've had starting problems with every two-stroke engine at some point in time. Usually it's a learning process, and there are always a rational reason to the starting problems, and Aspen alkylat fuel reduces overall problems.
