Rust on zigzag mk3

Morning guys,

 

Have any of you had any rust on your zigzags. I last used mine on a conifer removal in the wet, cleaned it like I normally would after and dried it off. I got it out yesterday and it has specs of rust on the stainless 'zigzag' part

see neither did I, just sent pictures over the the guys I bought it from and they have offered a replacement as they said it shouldn't happen

Very unusual.

 

I have been climbing on my MKI for about three years,in one of the worlds rainiest cities.No rust as yet but its about worn out.

 

It might be staining or sap?Have you tried cleaning it off with Alcohol?

Although stainless steel is much more resistant to corrosion than ordinary carbon or alloy steels, in some circumstances it can corrode. It is 'stain-less' not 'stain-impossible'. In normal atmospheric or water based environments, stainless steel will not corrode as demonstrated by domestic sink units, cutlery, saucepans and work-surfaces.

 

In more aggressive conditions, the basic types of stainless steel may corrode

Depends on the ferrous content ( iron ) . EN58J for example has minimal iron and is marine grade whereas EN57J does corrode readily . Try a magnet on it . If its non magnetic there is little or no iron .

Marine grade 316 Stainless steel is about the only stainless pretty much guaranteed not to rust
