i have 1/3 of a load of cotoniaster in back of truck near lincoln cut at weekend. was going on log heap, some is nearly as big as kev,s

seal the ends with pva or paint asap...

The biggest stem of rhoddy I have had was 18" in diameter and was a beautiful red colour all the way through. Very hard as well and strange for a plant that grows so fast. I used to cut them all up for pen blanks.

rhododendron is creamy yellow. are you sure it wasn't a bit of cherry laurel? that is reddish peach and rock hard.

 

what was the bark like

The right hand lump. The marbling effect isn't the wood sadly, just a bit of rain. Jon
