Is this worth milling?

It is in a farmer's field and I can mill it if I want.my plan is to cut the root ball off,clean the stones out and take a test cut.

Unfortunately someone has had a go at burning it.And it looks as if it would be rewarding with the timber, but at what cost it seems to be very hard timber.

If you can get it onto a trailer and back to a yard for power washing it will save you a lot of time in sharpening chains. Failing that use a wire brush to get rid of most of the dirt and show up the inevitable stones that will be lurking there. Remember to post up the photos, you should have some beautiful timber, with hopefully not too many cracks.

Best made into something in one large piece id guess, to minimise cutting & assuming lots of shake from being put on a fire when green.

 

A single block coffee table, hollowed & cut out to leave the legs, or maybe even 2 matching small trunk tables at that width.

 

Where are you based? If in west country Id love to give it a go...
