Look, I know nobody likes to be called out on things like this and I don't want to get into some pre-pubescent argument over it but the guy had every right to ask the question as it was a concern of his, you may deem it fatuous but in that case just say nothing, what right do you have to tell a guy he shouldn't be a climber just because he doesn't know whether he likes the feel of a piece of equipment, I don't like the feel of the Spiderjack myself, am I in the wrong industry too? The answer you gave wasn't constructive in any way atall, it was only ever intended to make him feel like a turd and then everyone else chimed in aswell, so yes, that is bullying in my book.

The point being made was that if you can't manage to even have a go with a piece of kit that is so very slightly different to the last one it makes no difference, then maybe climbing isn't the right job.

I don't think there have been any offensive remarks made, except by the OP. Jokes made in good taste, sure. If some people look hard enough they can take offense anywhere.

I tried my best to give reasonable answers, but it seems that no matter what I said the guy had already made up his mind. Makes me feel like not bothering.

How do you think people coped just 15 years ago using a prussick and 3 strand rope? They were men and they got on with it and didn't moan or complain. Climbers now are way too spoiled with the choices of gear available to them. Make the most of it! You wouldn't have made it back then on the old gear. Man up and get on!
