Ticks

I found a tick having a feed on my waist this morning. Probably picked it up in the wood yesterday. It didn't want to let go but got it out by rubbing with soap on cotton wool. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem and any advice on how to avoid ticks or get rid of them?

That's a bad way to get it off mate, agitating it like that makes it regurgitate crap into you.

Get a tick tool from the vets or Pets at Home.

Or just your nails even - anything but put soap or similar on them.

 

If you get a ring around the bite - like a bulls-eye then it's off to the quacks ASAP for some anti-biotics.

Ok, no ring as such, its a little red at the moment but more like a light rash colour than an infection. The middle is raised, bit like a spot really. I'll keep an eye on it.

So much bollocks talked about ticks, twisting them anti-clockwise, vaseline, burning them off with tab ends, etc.

They need to come off short, sharp and clean.

Applying antiseptic to the bite area afterwards is a good idea as well, for man and beast.

 

As for prevention?

I'm pretty well 50% DEET'd up against mozzies anyway in situations where ticks thrive, which the little buggers don't seem to like, but expose as little flesh as possible as well.
