Fit a Meteor, they are well worth the money and widely regarded as the best aftermarket piston on the market.

Others may work but you can get rings snapping, bad circlips, dodgy ring ends, dodgy ring retaining pins, incorrect arrow direction on the piston crown, casting flash etc etc

I've used a couple of AIP pistons in 026/260s now, and they seem to be excellent. Indian made. They have a website that has full/proper listing of what's available.

Meteor is probably still the best bet, but these AIP pistons are definitely worth a look if they are available to you locally or via eBay.

I've had soft circlips with a cheap chinese cylinder kit for a Stihl fs550 so I re used the original ones but wondered if the circlips were common parts for a number of the Stihl engines

I tend to use the ones from the original piston. Each size gudgeon (wrist) pin will have a different size clip!

Make sure yo get the right size piston. Some cylinders are 44 mm, others are 44.7 (the change started with the US EPA saws). Check the bore before you order anything.

Meteor has a stellar reputation for their aftermarket pistons.
