Chip & Pin Machine

Seen a few threads on this but it's an ever changing subject so thought I'd ask again.

Anybody take payment via card with a Paypal or Barclays card machine?

In a nutshell Barclays take approx 2.6% of the payment amount with no initial fee with Paypal taking an initial small fee (approx £50) and then 2.7% of the payment amount.

Is it worth it? Thoughts?

I've got the PayPal one, doesn't get used much so keep a battery booster with it to charge it up, useful for customers who don't know how to do internet banking or if you think they'll be a slow payer

Agreed, was thinking if the benefits outweigh the associated costs. Slow payers is a good one but majority of generations can conduct a bank transfer these days. If not then a check will suffice...

I have a mobile card machine. 25 a month plus vat, credit cards are 2.5% debits free.

well worth it for the crusher hire side of things. Not worth it for anything else

I have the same machine, through barclaycard

Machine is £25 plus vat a month

Debits are 15p

Credit cards 1.29%

Business credit cards 1.8%

Have decided to buy the machine outright this year, they are £350 or there about's.

How many times do you use it per month? Do you think it actually gets you more work or makes your life noticeably easier?

Probably done about 50 or so transactions on it this month.

Definitely got us extra work when I was doing turf laying jobs.

I would much rather people paid by card than cheque or cash, no more visits to the bank, and you know you are going to get paid, and just makes life easier, especially when we don't see the customer.
