Husqy 350 18" replacement advise

I cut a lot of wood in stacks (saw continuously running at full throttle). I've just melted my third piston so am looking for a replacement that might last better under these conditions.

My Husky has actually been a fairly good saw. I've had it maybe 12 years and it's served me well. Maybe 3 pistons is what one would expect to go through in that time? The last replacement (piston / cylinder assembly) I bought wasn't a genuine husky part as buying the genuine part would have made the saw pretty much a write off, so maybe I got what I paid for that time. (It didn't last as long as the other two).

Anyway, I'm interested to here what everybody suggests as a replacement saw of a similar size as I'm calling time on this one. Lets say money is no object (although I suspect it will be...)

Running at full throttle is what a chainsaw is designed for, melting three pistons is not right!

Did you ever find out what the root cause of her repeated failures was?

You'd want to find out to prevent re-occurrence.

As for replacement, husky 365xt, best value saw you can buy.

Fairly rugged, reliable and simple.

Hi

You seem to go through rather a lot of pistons are you using good quality oil ?

I went through similar process for a replacement, looked at

550 decided its more of a felling saw, strong contender but at a price

545 liked & nearly bought one, its a fair bit less than 550 here, however I prefer non auto tune saws.

If you want to pull 18" or more I would go up in cc to 555 as suggested or a 365 if you want to go a bit bigger.

I eventually ended up with a 346NE from a local dealer at a very good price & love it, lightweight & loads of power but dont think available in UK any more.

Money no object? how about two - a 545 & a 365 & run them on Aspen or Husky Power 2 fuel.

I woud think you had an air leak in the 350 to go through that many pistons in that time . Anyway I would agree with some others the 365 is a belt and braces built saw and will pull an 18" or 20" bar no worries . Also if you went for the newer Xtorque model its a very simple mod to change it into a 372 . Just a matter of grinding off 2 fins in the inside of the tranfer covers .

Hi

365xt seems popular in this thread, I certainly like mine, plenty of power & pulls 20" no problems, not too thirsty either.

Got mine from FR Jones & Son & very pleased with it too.

Our 365 is good IF we can start it. Much prefer my 450 though, might not last as long or cut quite as quick as the 365 but its lighter, nicer to handle, better on fuel, starts easily every time (unlike the 365)and runs like a dream even with an 18 inch bar.
