What flavour oil can you use in Honda engines?

I have two Honda mowers. I have been told to only use genuine honda oil. Iam not sure why any branded quality semi/fully synthetic SAE 30 would hurt. Also you can only buy it in 600ml, far more economical to buy in 5l I would have thought.

Hi

I have used 5W-30 synthetic oil in a number of small engines for several years.

Honda GX160 * 2 in old mower & a small cultivator, oldest are a 15HP Briggs & Stratton circa 1996 & Tecumseh 4.0Hp 1999 both run fine.

I think the manuals recommend a grade is 10W-30, 5W-30 just flows a bit better when its cold & 0W-30 better still.

The important thing is to change it because there are no oil filters, I try & change oil on mowers annually before storing for the winter, but often our grass continues to grow!

& I buy 5 litres at a time, much more economical.

Also the engines dont really use any oil, once filled the level barely drops over a year of fairly frequent use
