Due to several volcanic eruptions there is a solid pumice "pan" about a foot below the surface in most places around the Taupo district. This means we get lots of surface roots and have to do lots of root chasing. This was a Eucalyptus which, fortunately, grinds well when fresh.

Is it though?

I've done a similar one which I quoted half a day on standing.

When cut it was similar to that. The middle is hollow and the rest is like sponge other than the outside few inches which are solid. I reckon I'd do that in less than an hour.

Strange looking situation though? Obviously we can't see the full picture, but why would anyone let a tree grow to that size between a path and a road with an adjacent drain?:confused1:
