I've chosen to fund myself through cat C+E because I don't want to be tide down to the firm I currently work for, its expensive, but its an investment and will make me more desirable, thats the way I look at it.

If your thinking of doing it get it done before 10th sept 2009 because its going to get harder and more expensive!

Yea, I don't know exactly but from what I've heard as well as the theory test and hazard perception you have to do a CPC case study that is 50 questions and a practical demonstration thats 30 minutes.

Having just read back what I wrote it doesn't actually seem like it will be any harder, just a wee bit more expensive so I wouldn't worry.

Just about to take my C+E (The old HGV 1) and what i understand is that if you pass in a weight category you get entitilement to lower cats but not higher. Ie if you pass C1+E you get B+E but not C+E. Its explained better than I can here: How to add higher categories to your driving licence (staging and upgrading) : Directgov - Motoring Which is why I went in at the top and did HGV. Its no more than C1 and you cut out the middle man :)
