A solid nose bar will generate a lot more heat than a sprocket nose, I reckon this will be a factor in your issues.

I don't know why Stihl don't make sprocket nosed bars over 3ft.

If you can afford it I'd get a sugi hara one of RobD if you plan on doing a lot of milling with your saw.

I had this once mark, I put it down to the bolts on the clamps being unevenly tightened. Not happen again count how many turns on each bolt.

Only a learner so might be wrong.

Worn sprockets can become oval. This leads to the chain getting tight and then loose as it goes around...

I've just had similar problem, tightened up the chain and within 2 cuts the chain was slack again.

Checked the bar and found a worn nose sprocket.

I've changed bars over and I've had no problems since.

Sorry if this is a bit obvious but do you hold the nose of the bar up before finish tightening? I read this some where and it does seem to help keep the tension on.

Hi Tickle the only thing is when the saw is clamped to the mill you cant hold the end of the bar as yu would normaly but thanks , I have now got sprocket nosed bar that I am going to try on some ccedre of leb today as long as the rain holds off will report what happens later today hopefully all will be good Rob D assures me that the bar is the problem (thanks Rob ) so hopeing it dont rain

If the Bar is in the mill then lift the power head up, does the same job.
