I used to see this at our farm in Wales, once turned back up they loose the gas and sort themselves out. I've done it a few times, poor animals look wider than they are tall with all that gas in them.

that is so , sometimes you have to hold them up on their legs til the stomach rights itself , very common just before lambing due to extra size . twin lamb toxaemia and staggers can be underlying cause of sheep on backs ( being caste )

In my part of gods own country, if a sheep can't get up its 'rigged' . This slang word also applies to any person who's stuck or caught up in something. Their' 'rigged' don't know if it's the same in other parts

All creatures great and small was filmed around where I live. In fact, my wife's claim to fame is that she was seen as a child buying an ice cream in one of the films.

I have turn a number of sheep over in the past, and freeed then from fences when they got head stuck.

The other day I was at my barn and looked over the field where the tenant has got his in lamb ewes. To see one born. All good there, then about 5 or 10mins later another. This one did not look to be moving or breathing, but the ewe was licking it. So called my tenant to let him know, but he was 15mins away. He told me if you can do any thing do it otherwise it stood no chance. So I went over it was not breathing so I cleaned its mouth and nose. Then stuck a blade of grass up its nose. The all of a sudden it snessed and started breathing. So I steeped back and let the ewe lick it. And just watched it until the farmer turned up. I spoken to him today and the lamb is fine. The tenent has only got 40 ewes.

I couldn't have just let It go had to do something.

turned one over last year but the crows had eaten its eyes while it was still alive, awful, had to be put to sleep.
