They hold very well IMO, the posts and rails are alot bigger than they look so the nail was quite heafty. We drilled the rail first to stop splitting, Like i said before gave customer a few options and they went for cheaper one.

looks good to me mate, i do alot of fencing and always find it interesting to see different styles / variations.

what size did you make the posts?? look like quarters arent they??

Yes they are quarters the front face is between 5-6" and go about 11/2-2ft deep the corner ones were a bit bigger. All knocked in by hand with a post rammer.

i thought they must of been knocked in as i couldnt see any traces from augering or digging. i thinks its a good option to offer people as a low cost alternative to mortised post and rail as its less labour intensive. well done for hand knocking them in too, down here ground is like concrete, i was snapping 8inch diameter posts last week whilst knocking them in

The ground was ok except by the gate abit of a dumping ground for bricks and stone i think. practicing my mortise and tennons but it is time consuming (looks good after tho).

Will the wood need treating or has it been treated?

 

Did you but the timber already split or was it something you did yourself?
