So I greased the needle bearing and the rattle has gone. Hooray!

BTW, I really like my t540. It doesn't start as easily as my 200T but otherwise I think it's great.

I have not used a 201t.

How old is your one? I'm on my second after the first got stolen and the newer one seems a lot easier on starting, less choke when warm or cold and nearly always a short pull gets it going when up the tree

It's just over a year old. I bought it from Skyland Equipment who have been superb with after sales service.

I've had phone calls and messages from them just trying to help out with the rattling problem. I also mentioned that the rear AV spring was bending and hey-presto, a stronger replacement arrived in the post.

I've said it before, I always seriously consider customer support when I'm about to spend money and Skyland come out 10/10.

Slightly off topic but I had one of the first 540's about and i used to have problems starting it warm without giving it a bit if choke.

Recently I had a problem where the brass nipple that the impulse hose goes onto came loose so had to buy a new manifold. Since fitting it, the saw no longer needs any choke unless it's been turned off for quite a while, longer than before anyhow.

Thought I share my findings.

Do you run the 540 on Aspen OMT?
