Full chisel or semi chisel chain?

Go for full chisel but make sure its unguarded, I've got an 18in 325 oregan chain on my saw and it's got some kind of anti kick back guards next to the depth gauges and it doesn't cut as well as my last oregan chain.

It's similar to those crappy stihl chains you find on 200/201s always go unprotected you get more satisfaction, just from experience :laugh1:

i can sharpen full chisel no problem but semi chisel gives me right grief , like someone else said you have the full corner to keep an eye on with full chisel.

 

Ime, chisel is easier to sharpen correctly, as the referenses are better defined.

Semi may be more forgiving, but it doesn't really help if you know what you do, only if you really don't have a clue. :wink:

I usually run full chisel in clean wood, or if I intend to limb a lot and need the bite, and use semi chisel in dirty wood. Semi chisel will cut for a very long time in dirty wood vs full chisel. And semi chisel sharpened well cuts only a touch less than full now that Stihl and Husky both use micro chisel versions:
