Its now very clear petrol engines hate ethonal. However I have heard that diesels love it in the form of biodiesel obviosly water content is very bad. But good quality biodiesel is a great fuel. Much cleaner burnning and healthy for your engine. All though poor quality bio or cooking oil with water content is very bad for engine. Not sure with petrol but with bio or fosil diesel water settles at the bottom of tank!

This is all very interesting reading. I've not seen anything on the boat forums to indicate that anyone's very worried about ethanol in petrol (unlike concerns about low sulphur Diesel following the demise of red). I suppose big outboards just simply use too much petrol to even consider the use of Aspen, and maybe another factor is that you don't really breathe the exhaust fumes.

From my point of view our tender uses a four stroke outboard, and we don't even get through 5L in a year. It would really cost very little to switch in our case.

Hi all,

We now have two fire service rescue boats running on Aspen4 and I feel the small outboard market would suit Aspen with it's storage benefits.

Maybe use Aspen in the tank on the outboard and run normal unleaded in your main tank. As you come into port switch to Aspen so the carb is filled and you store the engine with long life fuel.

Then when the mood takes you just pull the rope or turn the key and she with fire up for you next time you want to go out on the water.

Aspen is supported by Mercury Marine.

From experience bio diesel is not good.

Im pretty sure most diesels contain it as a matter of course now, but like oils, you get what you pay for. Had some really rough cherry delivered a few years ago, everything was blocking filters. Even my beloved old caddy was struggling.

As an occasional user of two stroke machinery, after quizzing eddie with loads of questions, i tried aspen. First day out, felt better, no head aches, went to use my stone saw nearlly a year later, thinking oh yeah, let the fun and games begin, fair play second pull. Havent had to replace any of the fuel system or adjust any carb settings. Dont know any of the science, but aspen works for me.
