How many arborist a year go to court because of advice that they've gave?

Surely that's why you get public indemnity insurance.

A national diploma is the equivalent to A levels that would keep you in good stead incase you go to court.

That money would be better invested in other things

 

Within the realms of consultancy and expert witness work, depending on what your specialism is, you can be in court a few times a year. Whether you are acting on behalf of a developer going against a councils decision not to permit a development or defending a trees retention/removal pertaining to a subsidence claim, or heaven forbid defending a client in the event that their trees have fallen over and caused serious injury or damage to property or person, in such circumstances, I believe it to be the case, that at times, your professional qualifications are used to ASSIST the court in ascertaining whether your expert opinion is worthy in relation to the matter being addressed and should be given due consideration.

CJM I say court broadly, this could be lower level hearings or appeals to the secretary of state etc. Didn't mean 'in the dock, banged to rights gavnah' styly

Tree surveyor for a mortgage company. Sold my house last year and the buyers mortgage company wanted a tree survey done. 290-00 bar for 20 mins work, and that included drinking tea. Its a lot of money for a bullshit exercise.

i don't print my reports often, cuts into the profit too much... just email them!

They are generally pretty easy, but there's the travel time, and write up too, people generally want them done yesterday so it might mean rearranging an existing job to fit it in. Then you are opening yourself to liability if anything happens in the near future. But really you're paying for knowledge and experience over time. They're a bit like small back garden tree work, fit two or three in a day and you've done well. But they seem to be few and far between.

I feel guilty sometimes when a mortgage company demand one when there is no valid reason. However like you say they are always needed asap, there is travel time, soil searches etc. Still need to pay professional imdemnity insurance and advertising costs etc.. 290 quid does sound alot.. for a simple site.. but if comments from other threads are true i am devaluing the industry:001_smile:

No offence but a level 6 qualification is useless to the Arb industry. If you get s job that needs a level 6 qualification you need the option to work towards it.

Also if a level 6 Arb qualification means you'll end up in court giving expert opinions I'd rather keep my level 3 qualification and stay at home drinking tea
