Being popular on the beach etc.

Let's start by saying that I am in no way trying to belittle anyone who isn't good at spelling, I'm not advocating that they should go to the Derek Zoolander school for kids who can't read good and stuff:001_smile: generally we all know what people mean, or that I am some kind of expert, if anyone saw fit to follow my posts I'm sure they could point out errors.

However, I see the same mistakes being made on here so frequently that I figure they must be doing the same in their quotes, job applications etc.

What we do is very physical so a lot of us don't sweat the boring paperwork stuff. But the world is increasingly orientated towards the written word.

We're all part of that and when we get tree related words wrong in documents it can count against us.

So, preparing my self for some battering I'm going to point out a few that are so clear and so easily remedied that anyone can fix them.

Not aimed at anyone in particular at all.

No 1: Poplar not Popular this is a common one, remember you won't be popular if you cut down your neighbour's poplar (in the London borough of Poplar!)

No 2: Beech not Beach, you find squirrels in the first, sunbathe on the second.

No 3: Etc not Ect one means etcetera ie. and so on, the other means electro convulsive therapy.

No 4: Aerial rescue as opposed to Ariel (or a million other permutations) this surely goes on CVs

I reemphasise (if that word exists) this is not a sneery moan.

If anyone else has others that crop up and wants to share feel free, bearing in mind it's not an assault on today's yoof or education generally.

i must admit i see plenty of spelling and grammar errors but don't know if they are down to that auto type thing you get on mobiles.

people not putting a ' in the abbreviation of i will sounds like there are alot of sick people about.

i did see phone spelled with an f the other day.

they're, there and their get so mixed up it's untrue.

in general we realise what the poster is trying to say so it's not a problem.
