I'm not shocked at all . I sold a a 394 with a 36 inch bar to a bloke from the Philippines . They sent some film back of the guy using it in shorts and flip flops . Ok may be I wouldn't do that but I have done what the bloke in the vid is doing and I'm still alive ...in fact I am nearer dead now than I was when I did it ! Did it when I was about 16 and am, 62 now ...

i'll put money on it that most of us older ones have done some right dodgy things in our younger days that when we look back think that's why we have Health and saftey

Seems like he had every thing under control. Take for instance is native footwear, they were original and he seemed to be functioning well. I can also tell that he was a ground dweller based on his ability to balance him self on the last long trunk on the video.

I am sure he was an average homeowner just clearing some light brush for a weekend get together of his closest friends!.

Don't think he would last long in that heat with all the gear we have to wear.

I suspect use of PPE probably increases the accident rate all other things being equal (although it obviously reduces the severity of the consequences sometimes to the point where many near misses are not even recognised at such). An example is the use of seat belts where in trials it has been shown that drivers wearing seat belts drive faster than those not wearing seat belts. The problem is it's a lot easier and quicker to assess whether someone is wearing ppe or has a "training/competence" certificate than it is to assess whether their behaviour and attitude is safe - tick box culture.

And in terms of wearing a harness - I'm sure the rate of falls for free rock climbers is much lower than for roped rock climbers - you are very aware that a mistake when you are not roped just isn't an option.

Well said,it wasn't long ago 1980s we didn't have hard hats/ballistics or earmuffs, ( they were available, but no one used them) but then again we thought for ourselves and had a bit of common sense.
