You sometimes wonder about what goes on between being shown a star dared saw and some mid or other. Great to see things as they happen.

Ruddy spellchecker. That should have been, "You sometimes wonder about what goes on between being shown a standard saw and some mod or other. Great to see things as they happen."

Just a quick vid for any one who's not done it but thinking about a muffler mod.

The saw is wearing a brand new un sharpened chain in both cuts but I think it goes a way to show how pick up and power is improved with a 9 mm drill and a few minutes turning the saw in to some thing more useable.

I have a 560XP, do you feel like modifying it for me as it looks like you know what you are doing:sneaky2::001_tt2::001_tt2::001_tt2:

Looks like you are having some fun in that wood of yours:thumbup:

Swarf should get blown straight out, you can hear it rattling if it's in there so obviously try not to tip the saw in a position it would go down the cylinder. Have done two like this now with no problems and great results 👍

I have done them with the engine running before-any swarf just gets blown out immediately:thumbup:

If you give it to spud a lot more goes on but for this little saw the DIY approach definitely works , I would love to see a ported one.

Apparently, according to Brad snelling, exhaust mod and advance of the timing by 6degrees is the best you will get out of the saw.

I sent him a message on Facebook asking how to advance the timing by 6 degrees... He responded by saying you have to advance the timing by 6 degrees!

Bloody engineers.

I did the advance on ignition timing and measured the increase in speed at 7% which isn't that much compared to the muffler mod. The ignition mod is all about removing the flywheel and then either filing the moulded key on the flywheel or the steel key inserted on the crank and checking the advance with a degree wheel. It isn't really a mod for the uninitiated but can be done - Mattys 395XP runs a 5deg advance on it as does my 357XP!

The advance can make starting a saw a painful experience if you don't start it with conviction.
